Summer Time - PTU

This tutorial was written by me on 05/30/2014 and assumes you have working knowledge of PSP. Any simularities to other tuts is purely coincidental and not done on purpose.

For this tut you will need:

PSP - I use version X3 but most versions will do

Tube of choice - I'm using the artwork of Michael Landefeld. You can buy it from CDO
Do not use this tube without purchasing a license first.
IB-Robert Freeman-Pack 3-Mini by Schnegge, also available at CDO

Template 19 by Becky's Creation

Mask 84 by WSL

Font of choice, I used MargaritaVille

Xero Porcelain
Eye Candy 3.0 Glass

Eye Candy 4000 Gradient Glow or any other filter with a gradient glow

Let's begin, remember to save often.

Open your template in psp, duplicate and close the original. Delete the credits layer. Bring up the Resize box. Change the resolution to 72 Pixels/Inch and 100%, all layers checked. Increase canvas size to 600 x 600, center placement.

Delete the light grey circle layer that's just above the white background layer. Delete also, all the shadow layers as we'll be adding our own.

Activate the circle 2 bg layer. Add noise at Random, 100% and monochrome checked. Repeat with the circle 1 bg layer.

Activate the circle 2 layer. Copy and paste a paper of choice. I used paper 5. Resize 70%, make sure all layers is unchecked. Activate circle 2 again, select all, float, defloat, invert. Activate the paper layer again and press delete. Deselect. Activate the circle 2 layer, press delete, activate the paper layer and merge down.

Repeat the above step with the circle 1 layer. I used paper 6 for mine, resized to 60%.

Activate the raster 1 layer. Copy a closeup of your tube and paste as a new layer. Now mine had the opacity turned down, I returned it to 100%. Rotate your closeup 19 degrees to the right if desired, I wanted mine to fit properly in the frame. Arrange how you like it. Activate the frame bg layer. Click inside with your magic wand, expand by 4. Invert selection, activate the close up tube layer and press delete. Deselect. Apply Xero Porcelain to this layer at default settings, but change the blue slider to 0.

Give the frame bg the same noise as you did the circles. Activate the frame layer. Copy and paste paper of choice, I used paper 1, resized to 60% as before. Activate frame layer, select all, float, defloat, invert. Activate paper layer and press delete. Deselect. Change the blend mode to hard light or another that suits your colors. Do not delete the frame layer.

Activate the Sun layer, give it a glass bevel with Eye Candy, I used these settings:

Activate the Summer bg layer. Apply the same noise as before. Activate the Summer layer. Select all, float, defloat. Add new raster layer. Flood fill each letter with a color from your tube. I chose the bright red of her flowers, #aa0518, deselect when done. Delete the original Summer layer. Activate the flood filled layer and merge down onto the Summer bg layer.

Activate the Time bg layer, apply the same noise again. Activate the Time layer and merge down 1 time.

Hide all layers except the 5 flower layers. Merge visible. Select all, float, defloat. Add a new raster layer and flood fill with a lighter red then you did the Summer layer. I used #e80b2e. You can now delete the original merged flower layer and unhide all layers.

Copy your tube and paste as a new layer, resize 90% if needed. Arrange her so she's laying on top of the word Summer. Apply the Porcelain filter to the tube as you did the closeup. Move the Time layer down a bit so it sits near the bottom of the word Summer. See my tag for reference.

Now it's time to start adding our elements, I'll list the name of the element and the amount I resized mine, see my tag for placement reference.

Swirl, 50%, behind the tube on the left but in front of the sun.
Circle, 95%, on top of the circle 1 layer.
Fruits, 35%, sitting near bottom of tag.
Frame 1, 50%, mirror and use your erasor to remove the frame to the left and bottom of the flower and little blue swirl. Arrange in the top right corner of the frame on your tag.
Greenery2, 40%, behind the raster 1 layer on the right side of the tag. Duplicate, mirror and move a little over to the right and down a bit.
Bottle, 50%, behind the tube on the right.
Drink, 35%, behind the tube on the left.
Greenery1, 60%, rotate to the left 90 degrees, place behind the Summer layer on the left. Duplicate and mirror.

Now we're going to add our drop shadows. From the bottom up, apply a drop shadow of 0, 0, 80, 10 to these layers:  Circle 2 bg, frame bg, Summer bg, Time bg, the merged flowers and all of your elements except the layers listed below.

The Sun and bottle layers, apply the same drop shadow but change the opacity to 60. For your main tube, give it a drop shadow of -3, 3, 60, 10. Repeat the drop shadow at 1, -1, 50, 5.

Activate the bottom background layer. Select all, add a new raster layer. Copy a paper of choice, I used paper 4. Paste into selection. Deselect. Add mask from image, merge group. I chose to resize mine up 115% so I could see more of the mask. Duplicate your mask layer and merge down 1 time.

If you're going to resize your tag, do it now. I resized mine 83%, all layers checked.

Activate the top layer in your palette. Add your copyright, license info and tagger's mark. Don't forget to credit the scrap kit if required, which it is if you're using the same kit as me.

Add your name using foreground and background colors from your tube. I used the same 2 shades of red that I used for the Summer layer and the merged flower layer. Give it an inner bevel of choice, I used:

Then a light gradient glow with the width at 3 and the color tab like this or one of choice:

Then give your name a drop shadow of -2, 2, 50, 5.

Delete the white background layer, merge visible and save as a png or merge all and save as a jpg. Congrats, you're done!

Siggy Showoff

2 of my friends have done my Need For Speed tut. They both did an absolutely amazing job!

Challenge tags

Challenge 1 this week, we had to use this tut by Just Fi and/or just this template. This one has so many possibilities and it's been so cool seeing all the different tags people are making in the group.

Challenge 2 we had to use 3 shapes, 2 filters and a mask. I found this tut on Vix's site and OMG it's a hard one. I applaud anybody who can do this thing from start to finish cause it was a challenge all in itself. LOL

Challenge tags

I didn't do the challenges last week, just had no ideas at all. Below are this week's challenges.

Challenge 1 involved making a tag with pink, black and white. Then it had to have a ribbon, sparkles and a butterfly. I created the forum set above. It's loosely based on a tut by Just Fi, you can find it here.

Challenge 2 involved making a winter themed tag but the predominant colors had to be green and red with a touch of silver or gold. It didn't have to be Christmas, just winter. I did a tut by Bright at Creative Addictions. I've done it before but changed it slightly. You can find it here. I used Xenofex 2 Constellation to make the stars sparkle.

Challenge tags

I know I'm a bit late with this post, was a busy week for me. Challenge 1 last week was to create a Rockstar/Music themed tag. Except we weren't allowed to have the words Rock or Star anywhere on it. You'd be surprised how many didn't read that part. So above is what I came up with. A lot of us used this awesome Michael Landefeld tube. Thank you to my friend Kim for the animation.

Challenge 2 was to do any of the 2011 tutorials from Just Fi's website. I picked Fabula and used this awesome tube by Anna Marine. 

Challenge tags

The first tag for last week's challenges we had to use this scrap kit by Mediterranka Designs. 

For the next challenge, we had to use this template from Rosey's Tag Temps. You know it's always "dangerous" when I visit blogs with lots of templates, I end up spending hours downloading. I'm a total sucker for templates. LOL  And while I can certainly make tags without them, sometimes I like using them too. Especially when ideas are hard to come by. 

New tag

I actually started this tag a couple months ago but then Xenofex 2, Constellation decided to be a bitch and refuse to work and I couldn't continue. I use PSP X3 currently, but remembered I do have disks for 2 previous versions of PSP. So I installed 8 on here, praying the filter would work and it does. But then I couldn't remember where the tut was at. LMAO Well I found it today and was finally able to finish it. It's one of Vix's fantastic tuts. You can find it here. 

Several new tags

So I made a bunch of tags this past week. Got behind on posting them.

Need For Speed

This tut was written in PSP X3 but can be done in other versions with minor modifications.

I used the artwork of Michael Landefeld. You must have a license to use his art.

Supplies:

Template by Salsa which you can find at her blog HERE.

Tube of choice - The flags go with the Michael Landefeld tube so if you want to use them, you'll need to purchase that tube from CDO if you don't already own it. Please note that the flags can only be used with Michael Landfeld's tubes.

Font of Choice, I used Piranesi It BT which you can find HERE.

My Supplies HERE Save pattern to your patterns folder and the selection goes into your selection folder.

Open your template, tube and pattern in psp, shift D to make a duplicate of each and close the originals. On your template delete the credits and misfit team layers

Now we're going to use our Manual Color Correction tool, if you do not have this wonderful tool on your Tools bar go up to View, Customize and under Catagories click on Unused Commands. Then in the right box scroll down till you find the Manual Color Correction and click and drag it to your Tools bar.

Now on your template activate the dots layer. Click on your Manual Color Correction tool. Make sure Manual target color is ticked. Left click on one of the dots to get that color in the Source box. Then right click on a color from your tube to put that color in your Target box. Click ok and it'll change the dots to the new color.

Now I chose to delete the blue rectangle and grey circle layers, you may opt to keep them. We're going to change the color of all the items in the template except the black rectangle, the Need For Speed text and the stars. To change one, activate it in your layer palette, click on the item with your magic wand and flood fill with a color from your tube. The bottom pink bkground layer I flood filled with a silver gradient. Deselect after each item has been filled. When you're done you'll have something like this.

Now activate your stars layer. Shift A to select all, Shift F to float, Ctrl Shift F to defloat. Open up your pattern, copy and paste as a new layer on your template. Move it over on top of one of the stars, duplicate and move the 2nd one on top of the other star. I arranged the pattern a little till the area from the pattern that I liked was inside the stars. When satisfied merge the copied pattern down onto the original. Ctrl Shift I to invert selection, hit delete on the keyboard and deselect and it should now look like this.

Now activate the top layer in your palette. Add a new raster layer. Go to Selections, Load/Save Selection, Load Selection from Disk. Find your flames selection and click ok.

Yes the selection will be off center on your template, it's ok, we'll fix it in a bit. Click your flood fill tool and using either a color from your tube or a gradient, fill in the selection. Deselect and move the flames over the large circle so they look even and move the flame layer below the circle layer so it looks like this.

Now if you have the flags from the tube you can paste them onto the template and arrange them behind the flame. If you don't then I'm sorry, skip this step.

Add a slight drop shadow to all layers. I used the following settings.

The circle on the right I changed the horizontal and vertical to -1.

Activate the top layer in your layer palette which should be the sm circle. Now go to your tube, copy and paste as a new layer on your template. Move her over in front of the small circle in the middle of the template. I resized mine up a bit so she filled up more area (all layers unchecked) and went to Adjust, Sharpness and clicked on Sharpen just once. Now activate your sm circle layer again. Select your magic wand, click on the circle. Ctrl Shift I to invert selection. Click on the layer with the tube and hit delete on your keyboard. Deselect. Change the blend mode on the tube to Luminance Legacy.

Paste your tube as a new layer again and give her a deeper drop shadow. I changed the vertical to -2, horizontal to 2 and left the rest the same.

Add your name and dropshadow. Add your copyright info and watermark if you have one.

Resize if desired, I resized mine down 80%, all layers checked.

Merge visible and save as a png or merge all flatten and save as a jpg. Congrats, you're all done!
